Speedo Middle Tier Athlete - Hayden Hemmens

What are some of your most memorable moments or achievements?
My biggest achievement in life, and in swimming, will always be marrying my best friend, Sasha Corris, who is also a Speedo Athlete. She brought me back to the sport after I spent 3 years away from swimming because of a severe leg injury. She has been a part of my swimming career since 2014. Sash is my biggest inspiration, my motivation, and my reason to be back. After my injury, I thought I would never come back, however she showed me what I am capable of and reminded me of how great this sport is.
The following are my most memorable competitive achievements:
- Silver Medalist at the Lifesaving World Championships, 2018 (Adelaide, AUS)
- 4x Finalist in Beach Events and 3x Finalist in Pool Events at the Lifesaving World Championships, 2018 (Adelaide, AUS)
- 3x Top 5 in the WAC Swimming Championships in both 2019 and 2020
- Silver Medalist in the Surf Swim and 3rd Place in the Ironman at the ISRC, 2017 (Mount Maungonui, NZ)
What are some of your top tips?
As someone who has competed, taken a break, and come back to sport, my biggest advice is to be intentional, and love what you do. If there is no joy and no reason to do something, it is not worth it. Everyone's purpose is different, but once you figure out why you want to swim, weather it be to stay fit or to compete at the highest level, only then will you begin to see the joy and the progress required.
Apart from swimming, what do you do for fun?
I love the ocean, so more often than not, you will find me surfing or swimming. Aside from this I love to explore the bush, travel to new places around the world, start or build up businesses, and dive deeper into my faith.
What is your favourite Speedo product and why?
My favourite Speedo product is the Fastskin Speedsocket 2 Mirror Goggles because no matter where, how long, or the conditions, I am always able to use these goggles. They are my go-to, and I aways have at least 2 pairs in every swim bag.
