Tell us about your earliest swimming memory.

When I was six, my first coach and I talked about the upcoming Rio Olympics, and that day, I decided that I wanted to swim there one day too. Though, at that point, I was still struggling to finish a single 25m lap!

Why is swimming such a special sport for you?

I love diving into the water and entering a whole new world. I enjoy every moment in the pool; if it were up to me, I’d never leave. Not only does swimming keep my body healthy, but it relaxes my mind and allows me to live out my passion.

Which of your achievements are you the proudest of and why?

Two moments stand out in my swimming career; qualifying for SANJs, because I had to train hard to get there, and when I swam my first 3km open water race with a SA qualifying time - it was a huge surprise.

How do you stay motivated throughout the season?

MY COACH! On the days I don’t feel motivated, I rely on his positive energy and encouragement. Achieving my personal goals and setting new ones also keep me motivated.

What are your goals for the year ahead?

I hope to improve my SSA rankings, and I would love to do my first 5km open water race.

What do you do to prepare for a race?

Before a race, I like to have my training on point. I know that I’ll have a good race if my training is good. I’ll get enough rest the night before, and some pre-race rituals never hurt.

Apart from swimming, what do you do for fun?

I enjoy riding my bicycle, playing with my dog, going to the beach and watching Harry Potter movies!

I’ve always looked up to Speedo and their ambassadors, so being one myself is an absolute dream come true! Not only are the Speedo products the best in the world, but the company also gives so much support to their athletes. I’m very honoured to represent the Speedo brand.
